Meant to do a full painting of this but ran out of time, so it ended up being a 2-3 hour sketch.

This is my take on the Monkey King from Journey to the West, a classical Chinese fantasy novel.

This is awesome. I have a great love for your style...I am also surprised that many of your works don't have pages and pages of comments.

Thank you so much :) I'm also very lazy at replying to comments, which probably doesn't help me get more. Really appreciate your encouragement though!

I am almost surprised you responded at all. Your art is beautiful and it must be so great to actually have a job in the video game industry, I hope to learn from your skill....I really would like to work in that field some day.

I love the industry so far, not only for the pride of making a game I love but also for the privilege of working with like-minded nerds and geeks :) If you are serious about wanting to get into the industry, hit up cghub.com and [link] to see what others are doing, as well as to post your work. You will have to be able to ignore the trolls and grow very thick skin, but it's cheaper and in some ways more "real" than art schools. Please feel free to note me if you have questions.

This is excellent advice as I will never be able to afford a "real art education". A thick skin is going to be difficult but I understand the importance of it. I will be posting some practice illustrations and paintings to my account soon and I would love if you could give me some pointers on what I need to focus on improving, don't feel obligated or anything I know you must be busy but maybe sometime when you are bored :)

No problem, just message me whenever. I got a lot of help from people when getting my career started and I vow to pass down the torch.

You do, absolutely, need to have thick skin though! It's tough at first but you need to make a conscious effort to NOT take feedbacks personally. Distance yourself from your work, do not argue with advice you don't agree with (if you think about it after calming down a bit and still really don't agree, don't do it. But arguing gets you nowhere.) After a while you'll be able to shrug stuff off pretty easily :) Not everybody knows how to give critiques gently, or see the necessity to do so. Absorbing useful information from people no matter what their attitude may be is very beneficial for your growth.
